About this time last year I had the chance to travel to Lyon to see the Fête des Lumières. This is a celebration that lights the city with light shows and candles in churches, city square, parks, the streets, bridges and more.
I was able to wander the streets, seeing crowds enjoying the night. There were street performers and marching bands. Christmas markets lined some streets and light displays lined others. One square even had a ferris wheel, which of course was part of the light display. Light shows were projected onto buildings including churches, the opera house and the city hall.
This year due to the attacks in Paris the celebration was altered from the normal festivities. The focus was moved to
lighting of candles, as a show of solidarity.
Although this year's celebration was changed, next year is intended to continue with the traditional activities.
