Sabbeth Sites: St. Peter und Paul

Outside of my window I can see a small town called Schnetzenhausen. I have never had a need to go in that direction and so I have never been there, but this morning I decided I would change that.

Apples taken somewhere to be sold, a normal site in this area.

Sabbeth Sites: Chartres

This week I am remembering my high school French trip and Notre Dame de Chartres. The Chartres Cathedral is unique in a few ways such as the two towers. The taller tower is built in a Gothic style while the other tower is Romanesque in design.

It hosts a relic, Mary's veil.

The stained glass windows of the cathedral are unique in their
"Chartres blue" color. No one has been able to recreate the exact shade.

Oktoberfest

Being in Germany at this time of year, I didn't want to miss out on the largest fair in the world, Oktoberfest. When thinking of Oktoberfest the first thing that comes to mind for many is beer. There was plenty of beer, but it suprised me to see that only a few people were drinking with the intention of becoming extremely drunk (don't get me wrong some were). The vast majority of people I saw were enjoying the day, rides, company, culture, history, food and beer. Beer was an important part of the day, but only one piece of the whole experience.

What stood out to me most about Oktoberfest was the ability to sit down and talk with anyone you meet. Many times after a few minutes you and the people next to you were both sharing stories and laughing about experiences, as long as there was common language. By the end of your converstation it felt impossible that you had just met so recently. This ability to connect with anyone was what I loved most about Oktoberfest and why I plan to go again the next time I am able to.

Some messages need to be clear no matter what language you speak.

Sabbeth Sites: St. Paul's Church

I recently got the chance to go to Oktoberfest in Munich. On the way from the train station to the the festival there was a church that caught my eye.

Even though this church was not in my plans for the day I was able to explore the exterior, interior and even climb to the top of the steeple to see much of Munich and the Oktoberfest.

Although finding a beautiful church was not part of what I envisioned when I thought of Oktoberfest, it was a definite highlight of the trip to Munich.
